Barn damaged in wind storm..

As you can see the barn is leaning, knocked off its foundation, and the family wanted the letters quickly rescued before it fell completely. The letters were carefully removed and some boards were pulled off to mount the letters to.
Here the family name hangs in the basement, saved for generations to enjoy.

Use reclaimed wood and save a tree..

I started with a door jam I rescued from my neighbours garbage pile. Removed the hardware which I will use in other projects.  Red barn board (also rescued) for the top and sides.

Here you can see the spot where the hinge was, but it is on the inside and will not be seen. Fill the holes and paint , I love it!

Yes you can paint shiny brass ,

I sanded the smooth parts, yes sand the brass, it will help the paint stick.  Spray it with a black flat metal spray paint. When dry, paint the whole thing with white chalk  paint. If you are looking to destress it, rub off some of the white with a damp cloth before it drys so some of the black shows through.  I wish I had a photo of it hung, let me know what you think.
